Dental check-ups – the foundation for healthy teeth and gums

Regular dental check-ups are essential for maintaining oral health. There are different types of check-ups:

A preventive check-up is a basic check-up in which the dentist examines the condition of the teeth, gums and oral cavity. It is designed to detect problems such as cavities, gingivitis or the beginnings of tooth wear at an early stage.

A periodontal examination is designed to assess the health of the gums and gum tissues. It is used for signs such as bleeding, loose teeth, enlarged periodontal pockets or receding gums.

X-ray examination gives a detailed view of the inside of the teeth, the roots and the bone structure. It is often combined with other examinations for a precise diagnosis.

How do we maintain oral health in the long term?

  • Preventive check-ups at the dentist once a year for adults and twice a year for children
  • Cleaning of tartar at least once a year – the time interval is determined individually for each person
  • X-rays of dental crowns every 2 to 3 years
  • If you notice or feel a change in your gums or teeth, make an appointment for a check-up
  • Brush teeth at least twice a day, floss once a day
  • Avoid regular use of mouthwashes
  • Limit intake of sugary and acidic drinks and foods
